Why License?

With DocuPet, your pet’s license is much more than just a tag. It’s their ticket home, their customized (and cute!) emblem, and a link to their personal digital record. It’s also your way of doing good - not just for your pet, but for the pets in need in your community.

Dog licenses are mandatory in the City of Sierra Madre. In fact, licenses are mandatory in nearly every community across North America. Why? Because licenses help keep pets and the communities they live in safe.

Since licensing your dogs is a requirement, our goal is to make this process quick, simple, and valuable. Check out the ways you can license your pet below and feel good knowing that licensing revenue funds important initiatives helping to improve your community. To further support these efforts, DocuPet will always donate 20% of designer tag and product sales to our local Safe&Happy Fund partner in the City of Sierra Madre, Pasadena Humane.

The fastest and easiest way to license or renew is right here. You’ll create a profile for your pet, upload photos, process your license registration, and receive purchase confirmations via email. Payment can be made using a credit card or Visa/Mastercard debit card and your package will be shipped out next business day. Each year, you just need to log in to your existing account and renew - it’s super easy!

If you opt to license via snail mail - keep in mind processing your registration will take a lot longer!

Make sure you complete the below form in full and that it is free of any errors otherwise your registration may not be successfully processed. The fine print is there for a reason so keep an eye out for accepted payment methods, who the check should be made out to, where it should be mailed, and any required supporting documentation.

If you’re having trouble licensing online and need to get your registration processed in a hurry, you can call Pasadena Humane at (626) 792-7151 ext. 115 who may be able to process your pet license over the phone.

Note that we can only accept credit cards and Visa/Mastercard debit as payment. Please note that you will need to have a valid rabies expiration date already on file to purchase your license over the phone.

License Fees

Pet licenses are required for all dogs living in Sierra Madre. They must be renewed every year prior to the expiration date. Licenses expire exactly 365 days from the start date of the license. You will receive reminders from us about upcoming license expirations via mail, phone, and email.

Licenses are required for all dogs over four months of age.

Residents in the City of Sierra Madre are allowed to own a maximum of three dogs.

A replacement City of Sierra Madre tag is available upon request.

A valid rabies certificate is required to complete the licensing process. You must upload or present your certificates at time of purchase.

A spay/neuter certificate is required to qualify for the discounted rate.

When licensing a Certified Guide or Assistance Dog for the first time, licensing must be done in person. Future renewals may be done online once the status is verified.

Pet owners must be 60 or older to qualify for senior citizen rates.

What is HomeSafe™?

The HomeSafe™ Lost Pet Service features an online tool that ties your pet's unique tag code to their online profile. This means that if anyone finds your pet, they can easily report them found through our site, and immediately get access to the contact information you have chosen to provide.

Our Found Pet report makes it easy for people to help your pet get home safe. We also have a dedicated dispatch staff that works around the clock, answering phone calls and working with members of the community to help get lost pets home safe.

PROGRAM AND PARTNERSHIP

Pasadena Humane and DocuPet have partnered up to offer an enhanced pet licensing program for the City of Sierra Madre residents. A membership with DocuPet includes:

Pet owners must now license through the DocuPet program in order to secure a City of Sierra Madre pet license.

LICENSING OPTIONS, DATES, AND LOCATIONS

If your address is very new, or otherwise was not captured in our verification database you may be receiving an error when trying to license your pet. Please call or email our helpful customer service team at 1-877-239-6072 or info@docupet.com. They will update your address and allow you to proceed with the online licensing process.

You may renew your pet's license within 60 days of your current license expiration date. All pet licenses in the City of Sierra Madre expire on June 30th.

TAGS

You can order and pay for a replacement tag online by logging into your account and selecting the "My Pets" page. Under the Licensing section on your "My Pet's" page you will be able to click "Order Replacement License Tag". You can also order a replacement tag by calling Pasadena Humane at (626) 792-7151 ext.115.

ACCOUNT UPDATES

If you are moving please be sure to update your address in your account settings, or get in touch with Pasadena Humane directly at 626.792.7151 ext. 115 or emailing licensing@pasadenahumane.org. Even though you are moving you’ll still be able to access your pets online account and benefit from DocuPets services. If you are moving outside of Sierra Madre please be aware that your pets license will no longer be valid.

We're sorry for your loss. You can update a pet's profile via your online account or Pasadena Humane can take care of it for you if you call 626.792.7151 ext. 115 or email licensing@pasadenahumane.org. 

In order to activate your online account, you will need your access code and ZIP code. You may also activate your account with your pet's name, their existing tag number, your ZIP code and phone number. Your access code can be found on almost all communications sent to you from Pasadena Humane, including your mailed renewal letter and printed receipt. Otherwise, you can contact Pasadena Humane at 626.792.7151 ext. 115 or licensing@pasadenahumane.org and they will provide it.

We’re sorry! Unfortunately, unless you tell Pasadena Humane that a pet is no longer in your care, we have no way of knowing. Have you already told us? You may have a duplicate account. Get in touch with Pasadena Humane's customer service team to update your record by calling 626.792.7151 ext. 115 or emailing licensing@pasadenahumane.org.

DOCUMENT SUBMISSION

Documentation uploaded via the online system is reviewed within two business days. 

To license your pet, you will be required to show proof that the pet's rabies vaccination is current. Documentation is also required to verify that a pet has been spayed or neutered and must be provided in order to receive the discounted rate. Requiring documentation ensures that provided pet information is accurate, which is critical for identification and safety reasons.

OTHER QUESTIONS


In order to complete the licensing process, you will be required to provide basic information about your pet and a few critical pieces of information about yourself including your name, address, and contact information. You will also be required to upload proof that your pet has a valid rabies vaccination and spay / neuter documentation to receive the discounted rate. Once you have set up your online account, you are encouraged to add extra information about your pet in their online accounts, including photos!
